An alkaline diet basically reinforces good, old-fashioned healthy eating. The diet recommends eating more vegetables, certain fruits and drinking lots of mineral water and cutting back on sugar, alcohol, meat and processed foods.
The human body is naturally slightly alkaline, with a blood pH of around 7.4. The stomach is acidic with pH of around 2.5, which allows it to digest food.
